This unique museum is located in Rushville NE, east of Chadron. They had displays of items from locals in the area that date back into the 1800s. They had the old original Post Office for the area, which they moved to the museum site, as well as farming implements and a couple of buggies.
From their website (https://visitnebraska.com/rushville/sheridan-county-historical-museum): Local artifacts include library of history, vintage clothing, Camp Sheridan, Indian War military history, 1890 Armstrong House, Rushville’s first log cabin post office. Just off US Hwy 20, N. on Main St - The complete story of Camp Sheridan and the Spotted Tail Agency can be found here, along with numerous exhibits showing life on the frontier. The museum is free.
All of us, Linda, Diane, Cindy and myself enjoyed this quaint local museum. The folks that run the museum are extremely friendly as well as sharing loads of information about the area's history and the items on display. Interestingly, the museum was closed when we arrived and a local fellow stopped and said not to leave as he would go get the key and open the museum so that we could tour it.
Cindy and I have found that the little local community museums are some of the best we have stopped at. It seems that there is always a great chance of getting a guided tour of the museum from a person of the locality, with stories rich in the lore of the area. If you find yourself in a small town with a museum do yourself the favor of stopping by and checking it out.
