We started off our journey from Joe and Mel's place in Camp Verde and headed down to Kurt and Nancy's place in Black Canyon City. We stayed at Kurt and Nancy's place for 4 nights. Furthermore, we enjoyed some entertainment at the Black Canyon City VFW, a shuffleboard tournament and an evening of music. We also had the enjoyment of visiting over small fires in the morning with coffee, as well as getting to see Barb. Barb seems to be doing well, having lost Lanny over a year ago.
Upon leaving Nancy and Kurt's place in Black Canyon City on a gorgeous sunny morning, we headed for Dad's place in Florence. I have included footage of this portion of our travels, to share some of the scenery encountered on making this drive. I am still amazed by how long the distance is across the Phoenix Metro area. From the Northern edge of Phoenix to the South Eastern side of San Tan Valley is over 70 miles, all of which is a city landscape. Upon arriving at Dad's place in Florence, we got the trailer situated and setup, and thus began a very enjoyable month at Dad's. My brother Alan was at Dads when we arrived, giving us a chance to visit with him as well for a couple of days before he headed home to Wyoming.
Taking Chloe for walks in the surrounding desert was a daily occurrence, and I had a good time getting footage of her cavorting about. One particular afternoon, while out on one of these jaunts, the cloud formations were spectacular. As shown with the footage, they had a wave like look to them that only became more spectacular as the sun set and reflected great colors of red and orange.
Having received my new Ace Pro 360 camera, I enjoyed getting familiar with it while walking west of Dad's place around the fields of a local farmer. The days were bright and sunny with clear skies, allowing for the clear viewing of the surrounding area. One of the great aspects of the lifestyle that Cindy and I currently live is the ability to get in long walks and spending large amounts of time outdoors.
I have included more footage of the walks with Chloe in the surrounding desert as well. Chloe has been with us for over 16 years now, and she is still going strong, enjoying getting out and exploring. She has a bit of hip problems, however she has not allowed that to stop her from exploring and sniffing.
Cindy's sister Linda has a place just outside of Coolidge, Arizona, that is about 7 miles from where my brother Larry lives also in the Coolidge area. On one of our days of this stay at Dad's we ran over to visit with Linda and brother Larry. Though I did not get any footage of the visit with either of them, I have included a bit of footage of the drive to Linda's place. Followed with footage to Larry and Patty's home and then back to Dad's place. Most of this area is farming, with cotton and alfalfa being the main crops. Just west of Linda's place, they are constructing a rather large solar farm, which has been interesting watching the progress as it is being constructed. Having worked on a solar farm's construction in the Chino Valley area, the construction of these is fun to watch.
We were able to get a photo with Dad and the 3 boys Alan, Larry and myself before Alan headed back to Wyoming. We had not all been together as a group in over 6 years, so the opportunity to get a photo was a good thing. I was also able to get some footage of our rig setup at dad's place, as well as some footage of his front yard and the surrounding desert. While mom was alive, she had a love for cactus, so there is ample cactus in the front yard. Also, brother Larry built mom a cactus out of iron for her front yard.
One of our last adventures during our stay at Dad's this winter was going to the Enchanted Lights display in Phoenix with Daughter Alicia, her husband Brandon and our youngest granddaughter Ava. The display that they have put together is amazing and well worth going to. It is set up in the spring training facility for the Arizona Diamondbacks. There is an ice skating rink, all the different lighting displays, vendors around the upper deck area for the enjoyment of all that venture out to see this wonderful display.
A bit more footage of dad's place, plus my fascination with cloud formations. Smoking the prime rib for our New Year's Day meal, which turned out wonderful. Then time to say our goodbyes and head off to our next stop, the Painted Rocks Petroglyphs BLM site, which is located West and slightly North of Gila Bend, Arizona. We will share more about this location in our next video.
